AECT Management

Keeping operating costs low is one way of making sure beneficiaries receive maximum value from the Trust. So despite the size of the investment it’s responsible for, the AECT is a very small organisation. Other than your five elected Trustees, its day-to-day running is handled by a team of two: an Executive Officer and an Assistant Secretary. In line with our goal of keeping operating costs down, some specialised functions such as external communications and legal counsel are contracted out and only paid for when needed.

The Executive Officer, Ian Ward, works closely with the Trustees and is responsible for making sure the business side of the Trust runs smoothly. His responsibilities include managing our cash flow, providing corporate advice to the Trustees, communicating with beneficiaries and media, running our annual meeting, managing the Trust’s budget, managing suppliers, keeping an eye on legislative change, overseeing our annual accounts and taking care of Trust insurances.

Ian and the Trustees are supported in their roles by the Trust’s Assistant Secretary, Joy Stevens. Joy’s responsibilities range from helping the Executive Officer with the day to day operations of the Trust to the massive task of making sure over 300,000 annual dividends end up in the right bank accounts, letterboxes or power accounts.
